The Regymen Coach is able to inspire, entertain and energize our participants from the moment they arrive until to time they walk out the door. Coaches must enjoy being the center of attention while delivering the best new workout in the county. We will offer training sessions in the format of BURN, BOX, and BUILD. These training sessions are made up of different combinations of treadmill, boxing, and weight training. Coaches will lead up to 18 participants through a workout at a time. All selected applicants will be asked to audition. Final applicants will be taken through a week-long training and will have the opportunity to do a final audition. Top performers will become a Regymen Coach. Coaching the workout can be taught

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides excellent member service and seeks out opportunities to create “Magical Moments” for our participants
  • Ability to thrive in fast paced environment, as well as the ability to multitask in a large group setting, with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude, inspirational, confident, outgoing, strong personality and can build strong relationships. Energize and inspire participants throughout the workout.
  • Be a Regymen and Y ambassador inside and outside the training studio
  • Attend staff meetings, studio events, special events, and educational seminars
  • Assist in sales when needed. Be available to coach and sub at local Regymen studios.
  • Ensure proper exercise technique and modify workout to all fitness levels
  • Completes new employee training as required, including blood borne pathogens and child abuse prevention
  • Upholds the YMCA image standards and Code of Conduct and adheres to all YMCA policies and guidelines
  • Uses Listen First skills to assist YMCA members in determining their long and short term wellness goals.
  • Wears appropriate YMCA Regymen Coach uniform: shirt and name tag

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a current Personal Training or Group Exercise Certification from a nationally recognized organization with NCAA Accreditation
  • Must have knowledge of strength/free weight and cardiovascular equipment, general strength training principles, appropriate exercise modifications for special populations
  • Bachelor Degree in exercise related field is preferred but not required
  • One or more years of experience in teaching large groups or personal training is preferred
  • YMCA certificates to include: YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles, YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning (recommended)
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Express YMCA Childwatch Attendant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide direct supervision of children in a group setting. Provide a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Other department duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Safely supervise a group of children ages eight weeks to ten years of
  2. Implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core
  3. Adhere to program standards including safety and
  4. Maintain positive relationship with parents and other
  5. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and
  6. Attend all staff meetings and in-service
  7. 24 hour notice required if calling out for shift and you are responsible for getting your own sub.
  8. Availability must be turned in by the 15th of each month to the Child Watch supervisor.

Express YMCA Wellness Coach

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wellness Coach is supervised by the Wellness Director, Member Engagement. Under their direction of the Director or Wellness Coordinator the Wellness Coach will assist with the operation and implementation of the YMCA of Central Virginia Mission Retention strategy. This strategy includes Floor Engagement, Wellness Coaching Sessions, and Daxko Engage, Activtrax/Appointment King.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be at least 18 years of
  2. One year experience in health related field
  3. Pursuing a degree in Exercise Science, Wellness Health Promotion or related health field
  4. Excellent customer service and general office
  5. Ability to work independently and in a group
  6. Basic knowledge of computers and general office
  7. Ability to work in a dynamic, changing, and diverse

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

You must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Position regularly requires the ability to do word processing, data entry and filing for several hours at a time. Position may require, sitting, bending, leaning and kneeling on an occasional basis. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in order to perform essential functions. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a safe and secure environment for all members, guests and visitors in the Wellness Center.
  • Monitor Wellness Floor to ensure an exceptional member experience. (I.e. re-rack weights, clean machines, remove trash and debris, replenish towels, log maintenance issues related to equipment, etc.)
  • Engage all members, guests, visitors with superior customer services. Greeting all with a friendly smile and offer of support.
  • Provide mentorship and fitness/wellness coaching for all facility members who require it.
  • Successfully complete the YMCA of Central Virginia Mission Retention/Engage training within first 90 days of employment.
  • Work with the Engage Kiosk on the Wellness Floor to actively engage all New Members, Low Engage and Critical Members. Logging notes and tasks as required.
  • Work with Director, Member Engagement and/or Wellness Coordinator to conduct Engage task related calls to schedule wellness sessions and check-ins.
  • Accurately and timely log all details of member interactions (either live or over the phone) in Daxko Engage notes section. Training and support will be provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must become First Aid, CPR, AED certified – Training provided.

Express YMCA Personal Trainer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Assist with the development and implementation of safe, enjoyable, and individually prescribed exercise programs for clients.

AUTHORITY

To make decisions directly related to assigned duties within the framework of the Downtown  YMCA’s mission, policies and goals.

FUNCTIONS

  1. Interpret, communicate and provide leadership of YMCA mission, goals and objectives to staff, volunteers, members and the community.
  2. Participate in membership retention goals and annual giving campaign as requested.
  3. Provide instruction on proper form, techniques and safety on strength training and cardiovascular equipment.
  4. Designs safe individual exercise programs based on the need, goals and fitness level of member.
  5. Starts and finishes each session on time and ends within the established time frame, when possible.
  6. Tracks all personal training sessions accurately according to the system that is in place and keeps an accurate time sheet directly related to the tracking system.
  7. Notifies Wellness Director of any concerns or challenges related to members or staff.
  8. Refers all potential participants to the front desk for registration.
  9. Check facility for safety and cleanliness. Report all discrepancies to the Wellness Director.
  10. Represent the YMCA of Central Virginia professionally (Attire).
  11. Personal Training outside of the YMCA of Central Virginia is not permitted (other clubs, homes, etc..)
  12. Required to work two floor shifts per week

ACCOUNTABILITY

Under the supervision of the Wellness Director, the personal trainer assists their respective supervisor with the marketing, development and implementation of the personal training program, as well as keeps them informed of plans, progress and problems.

Position Requirements:  The successful candidate must hold a current CPR/AED certification and a minimum of one nationally recognized (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA or Cooper Institute) personal training certification or health related degree. Less than one year experience as a certified personal trainer.

Physical Requirements:  Standing and/or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting and carrying equipment, tools, furniture and supplies up to 50 lbs.  Move heavy machines and/or equipment with assistance. Able to demonstrate the use of a variety of cardiovascular and strength training machines/equipment.

Express YMCA Member Services Staff

DEPARTMENT:   Membership

REPORTS TO:     Membership Director

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Member Services staff is responsible for assuring membership services to each member, and to answer questions of program participants and guests.   In addition, the Member Services staff will assume any other responsibilities that will serve the membership of the YMCA or strengthen the Community.

KNOW HOW

He/She must bring to this position knowledge in customer service; have proper phone etiquette and computer experience. He/She must be able to communicate effectively with members, guest and staff.

JOB SEGMENT

  1. Communicate in a friendly and courteous manner when answering phones, transferring calls and taking messages.
  2. Receipt all program and membership fees.
  3. Ability to communicate properly and effectively with people at all levels.
  4. Greet everyone who enters the facility in a friendly manner. Interact             with all members.
  5. Make sure that all members and guest are properly checked in. Greet members by name when scanning.
  6. Assist in tours once trained
  7. Take membership pictures for cards
  8.  Be knowledgeable and be able to answer all questions pertaining to all programs.
  9. Responsible for accurate input of all program registrations and                      membership signups.
  10. Responsible for accurately reconciling daily cash receipts and closeouts.
  11. You are responsible for finding coverage for your shift if you are unable to work.

EXPECTATIONS

  1. Must attend all scheduled staff meetings.
  2. Staff dress code must be obeyed at all times. The dress code consists of: A Black YMCA staff polo with black slacks or khaki pants.  A Y staff black fleece may be worn or a black or white long sleeve shirt under the black polo is acceptable. 
  3. Name tags should be worn on the right side of the shirt at all times.
  4. The front desk should NEVER be left unattended.
  5. Habitual tardiness or absences will not be tolerated.
  6. No individual workouts while on duty.
  7. Must attend all OSHA training/keep current certifications in CPR, AED and Redwoods Trainings
  8. Emergency Action Plan must be memorized.
  9. There will be no offering of Political or personal views to members.
  10. No profanity will be allowed by staff.
  11. YMCA Code of Conduct will be followed by all employees at all times.
  12. All staff must park in the back rear parking lot
  13. Keep counters clean and neat at all times.
  14. READ all literature and flyers given to you by Program Directors.
  15. No eating directly behind the front desk. All food must be taken to another office or kitchen.
  16. Will work at the days/times agreed upon at hire: primarily afternoons, evenings/closing shifts and weekends.  At minimum 2 weekend shifts are expected per month.

Personal Trainer

Bus Driver

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

HOURS: 2:50pm - 6:30pm | Monday - Thursday

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  2. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.  Cleans out bus each day.
  3. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  4. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Lifeguard

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  •  Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. 
  •  Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
  •  Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  •  Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  •  Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  •  Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  •  Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
  •   Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  Minimum age of 16.
  •  Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen. 
  •  Current YMCA Lifeguard, American Red Cross, or equivalent.
  •  Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  •  Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
